Peer support

We can help you find support from other people who understand the issues, fears and challenges you are facing.

Peer support is a confidential, anonymous, telephone program staffed by volunteers who have themselves experienced problems with gambling or worked through the impact of someone else's gambling.

You can call to be a part of the program or agree to being referred by a professional. You will then be assessed to match you up with an appropriate volunteer.

Your peer volunteer will call you weekly, fortnightly or monthly, as often as you need.

Visit the Peer Connection website for more information.

Volunteers

All our volunteers have had experience in dealing with their own gambling problem or have worked through the impact of someone else's gambling problem.

Lifeline provides comprehensive training for all volunteers who also receive supervision, debriefing and ongoing support from the program coordinator.

Visit the Peer Connection website for more information.

Referrals

Referrals can be made by contacting Gambler's Help Northern Intake on 1300 133 445 or the Peer Connection Coordinator via email at pcintake@bchs.org.au

Please note, this service is NOT for people in immediate crisis and does not replace the existing Gambler's Helpline 24-hour service.

Gambling Help Online community forum

Connect with other people going through the same problems. Discuss hot topics, share stories, setbacks and strategies for change.

The online forum is open to anyone affected by gambling and is peer-moderated.

The forum is a safe place to:

  • share honest stories with others affected by gambling
  • promote healing through shared experiences and connect with peers
  • access support if you are reluctant or not ready to reach out for more formal help
  • find support while you make changes in your life, particularly if you're between sessions in formal treatment
  • connect informally with gambling counsellors who act as facilitators and encourage discussion.
