Awareness and prevention
Information and resources
Preventing problem gambling is one of the foundation's greatest challenges and one of our top priorities.
At our Many ways to help conference, we encouraged innovative thinking around how to prevent problem gambling and shared program plans for the coming year.
Why focus on prevention?
Prevention means targeting people who are at risk of developing gambling problems as well as the wider community. It's about raising awareness of the risks and reaching out to people across the state with messages about the importance of responsible gambling.
Taking a public health approach, we aim to equip Victorians with the information and tools to make better gambling decisions. We also encourage family and friends to be aware of the risks and to look out for their loved ones. This not only helps de-stigmatise problem gambling, it also helps build resilience in the community.

During the conference, the foundation launched its BetRegret campaign to raise awareness among gamblers who may be at risk of developing problems. BetRegret encourages people to listen to feelings of guilt, loss and regret to prevent those feelings from leading to something bigger.
The foundation recently granted funding to a number of organisations across Victoria to deliver local projects designed to prevent problem gambling in the community. Find out more about our prevention program.
