Christmas can be a stressful time of year. It's a time when routines are disrupted and financial demands increase, which can put pressure on your personal relationships and affect your mental health.

The temptation to gamble to escape or alleviate financial pressure during the holiday season is often heightened, but there are precautions you can take to avoid harm from gambling:

Nominate a support person

Develop an action plan

Identify some activities that you enjoy and are achievable. They could be as simple as going for a walk or watching a movie. If you feel tempted to gamble, focus your energy on completing an activity that calms and re-centres you.

Money management

Be realistic about what you can and can't afford rather than getting swept up in an ever more commercialised Christmas. Accept an invitation to Christmas dinner from friends/family and consider giving the gift of volunteering.

Be kind to yourself

Take advantage of down-time by ensuring you eat well, get plenty of rest and consider some New Year goals.
