Calling for volunteers to share experiences of gambling harm

Tuesday, 6 February 2018

If you or someone you know has experienced the harm that gambling can cause, you may like to share your personal experiences as a way to help others, reduce stigma and create positive change.

Three projects funded by the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation are seeking to recruit volunteers who've been personally affected by gambling and want to share their story.

ReSpin, Peer Connection and Three Sides of the Coin work toward the common goal of helping others, reducing the stigma around gambling, and ultimately, creating long-term positive change in the community.

They are currently recruiting volunteers for the following opportunities:

  • ReSpin Gambling Awareness Speakers Bureau – Using your own stories and expertise, become an educator about the real effects of gambling. Volunteers receive professional public speaking and communication training to build their confidence to share their story. Ongoing professional development and support is provided.
  • Peer Connection is a state wide program offering one-to-one telephone based peer support to people affected by harmful gambling. Volunteers use their own personal experiences of gambling harm and recovery to support others wanting to make changes to their gambling. Volunteers receive training, supervision and ongoing support.
  • Three Sides of the Coin runs creative storytelling workshops for people to share their experiences in a safe and supported way. Participating in these fun and dynamic workshops builds connections, develops confidence, and furthers recovery, in order to create a collective story to raise awareness about gambling harm.
